DVD woes!!

Hi All, I am struggling with try to get dvd playback. I have Installed Totem-xine and all the plugins ( including libdvdcss2) and addons that I know about and still cannot get any playback on my Acer 500x laptop Gui MSG Totem cannot playback maybe you do not have the required permissions. Gui MSG Totem cannot play maybe you need libdvdcss2 or download extra plugins Terminal part msg after doing "totem dvd://" : libdvdread: Can't open /dev/hda4 for reading libdvdread: Device /dev/hda4 inaccessible, CSS authentication not available. libdvdread: Can't read name block Probably not a dvd rom device libdvdread: Unable to find map file '/home/john/.dvdnav/ map' Anyone know what to do for a fix please? best price perfomance for broadband

Hi We are trying to decide which broadband service to go for ..having had dial up internet at home for sometime .. we want a pretty low end version initially .. has anyone in the list any suggestions about best price performance .. the plans they all seem to offer seem extremely complex and it is difficult ot make a valid comparison Thanks -- Stephen Pearce Critical Care Whangarei ph 021 390 997

Anything with a filesystem or a unique serial, or MAC address, etc, however is fine. So, ok, multiple identical printers are probably a problem. At this point you might have to resort to "get different printers", or "leave them plugged into the same USB port, perhaps on an external HUB", or "buy an external print server that does ethernet -> USB. In terms of sound cards[1], you could use the PCI ID to define the order in which sound cards are brought up. This doesn't change - or it shouldn't change, unless you have faulty/crazy hardware - unless you shift the physical slot the device is plugged into. [1] or anything, even including USB devices as long as you are prepared to put them on the same port every time. Use the USB *bus* ID in that case, not the PCI ID, obviously :)

Thank everyone Success! I started at the command line with the ip address but then I needed the subnet mask and the gateway so I took Ian's advise and used the gui. I just googled and found: ifconfig eth0 <number provided> Is it as simple as just doing this?? If yes! do I need to undo this when I am finished??
