NZ Computer Society National Series: Developing for the iPhone: Innovation and Usability 14 April 2010: 12:00pm - 1:45pm Events Room 1, Gallagher Hub City Campus, Gate 5 Tristram Street, Hamilton NZCS are proud to bring you the second of the National ICT Series, this month focusing on the paradigm shift required to develop for a mobile platform such as the iPhone. Developing for the iPhone: Innovation and Usability Many believe that the introduction of the iPhone brought about a fundamental shift in the usability, functional abilities, and expectations of phone and PDA users. However along with this shift came a new challenge: how to develop for this revolutionary platform? Join John Ascroft, Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) of Jade Software Corporation, and Hadley Trounson, a member of Jade's development team as they take you through the iPhone environment and its focus on user-centric design and market driven innovation. The Jade team will also outline the total shift in developmental paradigm encountered, plus their experiences in introducing the new platform and the technical development challenges encountered along the way. Thanks for your link, Gregory. Turns out I didn't give enough information in my original post - and after thinking of the right terms, a Google search found the problem. I was affected by bug 477104, fix and cause here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/477104 in case it will help someone. I was running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 via Wubi (critical missing info in my original email). Wubi + kernel update = broken grub2 & left at bootloader. In the future, I'll need to follow any major updates by running sudo update-grub2. If this happens to anyone else, I fixed it by running: > set root=(hd0,1) > loopback loop0 /ubuntu/disks/root.disk > set root=(loop0) > linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-17-generic root=/dev/sda1 loop=/ubuntu/disks/root.disk ro > initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-17-generic > boot Once Ubuntu booted successfully, I had to run sudo update-grub2 to prevent the issue from recurring at next boot. Obviously, the versioning will vary; I also had to rollback to the previous version of vmlinuz and initrd. I've seen comments that the first 2 lines aren't necessary, but I needed them on my system. Hi All, Due to some awful archiving. I have around 1500 digital still images that have been duplicated triplicated or more in a number of folders,C/D's and DVD's on a number of drives. I would like to know if there is a way I can dump ALL the directories into one folder then run a "find dupes" type program that would ensure that I did not delete any of my original photos. Wiki usage

Hi, I am one of the members of Aucklug, and noticed the excellent wiki that the Waikato lug runs. Would you guys be open to us sharing the wiki, adding a few more pages that are Aucklug specific, linked from http://wiki.linux.net.nz/AuckLUG I don't see any point re-inventing the wheel, and the wiki already has many great references to things like Linux, NZLUG, etc. I want to put up a page for a start with some venue information on it, and a page for the next presentation where people can add ideas, RSVP, etc. Regards Glen Ogilvie
