Brother printer stopped working

Hi, My Brother HL-2140 printer which has been working perfectly has suddenly stopped working. I'm using Kubuntu 8.04 on amd64 which I keep up to date and I guess it was due to a recent update, but I don't use it all that much so I don't know exactly when it got broken. I enabled debug logging in cups and it shows that something is seg faulting. The log is posted here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8846976 Anyone have any advice about how to fix it? The dog ate my bootloader!

Hi everyone, Well the subject line says it all... There was an update yesterday that came in for Ubuntu Netbook Remix (9.10). Downloaded, installed, rebooted, and now I just get dumped into Grub. Immediately before the Grub screen comes up, it quickly flashes something that MAY be the words "Try hdd(0,0) NTFS". Then I get the sh:grub> prompt. OK So I don't know anything about Grub or what I'm doing in it. I've typed ls and I get: (loop0), (hd0), and (hd0,1). I tried boot /vmlinuz, and I get "Error: no loaded kernel"; tried linux /vmlinuz, and I get "Error: wrong magic number". Not sure what else I should try. Does anyone have any advice to get my netbook up and running again? I'm back to Windows 7 Starter! (argh, argh, argh) Thanks in advance! Cheers, - Eric

Ge Force FX 5200

Hello, I am looking to build a MythTV box for a friend using a satellite card to capture/watch/record Freeview. I've already got my own box working. Prior to HD, I understand the Nvidia GeForce FX5200 was considered a good graphics card and is infact what I use (more by luck than design). It has an TV-OUT RCA socket. Would anyone on the list have something like that spare that they would be willing to sell? If you wish to reply, please reply to me off list. Cheers, Chris

Linux Mint 8 (Helena) 32 bit tested

Hey guys. If anyone's interested, I've installed Linux Mint Helena (32 bit) on my Compaq Presario Notebook. Decided that, since my Gloria was getting a bit buggy in regards to updates and sound, it was time to take the plunge. Helena runs like a dream, drivers and wireless work fine with no fuss. They've improved the general aesthetics. Additionally, you can now do OEM installations. They've also improved the layout of many menu's. You can also choose to ignore certain updates. Be interesting to see what other goodies I discover over the next few weeks. If anyone wants the ISO, just give me a yell, at the next Fix-It day. Self intro & Hamilton handmade Tux's

Hiya, Just to introduce myself, I'm a expat Kiwi from Hamilton. I live and work in Stockholm Sweden with FOSS in a large RHEL environment. I'm also very involved in the FOSS community in Sweden. I'm back in Hamilton on Holiday and will come along to the fix it meeting tomorrow to show my face amongst the WLUG before we fly back next week. I've been luckily enough to get my mother to sew up a few soft toy Tuxes for me. And also a large on that I will use for Software Freedom Day 2010 and for other FOSS gatherings that I'm involved organizing. My mother is interested in sewing these Tuxes for the Linux community if there is any interest for them here. Please let me know if anybody is interested and keep it in mind as situations come up from time to time where tuxes really add that little bit extra to a FOSS event.
