RMS visit. Who would turn up?

Just wondering. If CompSci were to host a talk by Richard Stallman (proposed Sat 9th August, early evening) who would definitely turn up for it? WLUG cannot organise this. RMS refuses to have anything to do with LUGS. CompSci are considering it, but don't think that 100 or more people will turn up. I have no idea how much (or how little) interest there actually is in this presentation. Show of hands? -- This email is for the intended recipient only. I might come over. Also, if I send a company wide email then a few others are also likely to turn up. Cheers, Usama David Goodwin wrote:

For the sake of less 'me too' e-mail, please consider sending your response to Bruce off-list for his tallying.

I've only seen three replies to the list, and quite frankly, they were encouraging replies which are more likely to motivate other members to attend the meeting rather than merely create noise. Having heard that RMS would be coming through Hamilton, not hearing if anything had been organised, then having someone slamming the door right into our faces... No tact No thankyou for making the right people aware of RMS coming to Hamilton No prior communication No thankyou to Bruce for his stunning efforts I think any encouragement of people saying, "I'm coming to this", "Me too..", whatever, is a good thing in this particular instance. It's also a vote to say the to organising committee that we want to hear RMS speak, don't be so rude to us... On Fri, 2008-07-18 at 14:45 +1200, Craig Box wrote:

I've counted 8 people so far that said they would be coming, three of these were off-list. I'll see how many more there are, but it's starting to look like CS might be right; RMS is expecting an audience of >100. We're not going to get that. Perhaps instead we can organise a bus or carpool to see him speak in Auckland? Unless I see a whole lot more replies over the weekend anyway.

I have heard RMS previously, and am unsure if I want to go see him again.. Im not sure if others follow my reasoning that he is a bit petty.. instead of trying to educate those inside a LUG what good things GNU has done.. He just refuses to talk to them unless they have a silly long name. My opinion is if he doesn't come he only alienates the students he could have educated.
