I am a Linux newbie. I have recently installed a RH9 box as part of a Windows network. In Mozilla, when I try to activate my RH9, a window pops up: 'Alert This document cannot be displayed unless you install the Personal Security manager (PSM) Download......etc' I downloaded and copied mozilla-psm 1.2.1-26. to my RH system as root. 2x clicked and the installation window flashed up briefly for about 1 second but didn't install. This window said: " Preparing system update: Before modifying packages on your system package dependencies must be determined. This process may take a few minutes." To confirm, in the terminal window I typed: 'rpm -q psm' "package psm is not installed" Any help would be appreciated to get it installed. Kind regards Gun Caundle 77 Maniapoto St. Otorohanga ph/fax 07 873 6575 gun(a)guncom.co.nz

the mozilla "psm" is needed for viewing encrypted websites, which I assume is why you got that first message.

Any help would be appreciated to get it installed.
The package is called "mozilla-psm", not simply "psm". If you can now go to https:// websites (that use SSL encryption) then it is all installed properly.... John

Thanx John When I do 'rpm -q mozilla-psm' I get "package mozilla-psm not installed" When I do 'rpm -qa |grep psm' I get "psmisc-21.2-4" Does this mean there is another psm package installed. I can get into RedHat .com but not into the "activation " part Kind regards Gun Caundle 77 Maniapoto St. Otorohanga ph/fax 07 873 6575 gun(a)guncom.co.nz ----- Original Message ----- From: "John R. Try installing the mozilla-psm package you downloaded from the command line using rpm -ivh (you need to specify the full name of the PRM file, not just "mozilla-psm") then try again. And let us know if you should encounter any error messages along the way. -- Matthias

Hi Gun, (Little to do with your current problem although it may help - just general advice that I hope is helpful....) I think you mentioned previously you were using RH9. As a newbie, you may have already come across mystifying and highly frustrating package dependency issues when using rpm that other linux versions such as debian don't have (with apt etc.). If you haven't, then lucky you. In any case, do your sanity a favour and download and install apt-rpm (http://apt-rpm.tuxfamily.org/). Very easy to use and you can bypass that silly rpm package manager and you'll NEVER have dependency issues (again). It may even solve your current problem. You can even (I'm not on my linux system right now so can't confirm this), configure your rpm downloads to come from closer/faster servers than redhat's. Good luck. Or alternatively just get a RedHat Network account (the first is free) and then just type "up2date mozilla-psm" at the command line. To get a RHN account just type "rhn_register" at the command line. Though if your machine is a stock RH9 box up2date won't work. The SSL certificates have expired. You can download new versions of up2date that fixes this issue from http://rhn.redhat.com/. Then you'll need to install the new up2date rpms at the command line with: rpm -Uvh up2date* As long as the downloaded RPM's are in the current directory that is.
