hey all thanks for all the great information. I had a serial modem that came installed in the machine when I bought it a couple of months ago. Its a brand new computer and I couldnt get scanmodem to detect it, thats why I tried to install a USB modem instead. I can supply output of the scanmodem program if required. Thanks all Glenn.
