I wonder how many people are using Unity/Gnome 3/Gnome 2 in the later releases of Linux distros? I myself ditched Unitiy after about 5 mins, tried Gnome 3, also ditched it, but then a year or so later tried Gnome 3.2 forced myself to use it for a month to give it a real shot. And now I am very happy with Gnome3 UI and can't imagine going back to gnome 2. I am a long time linux user since redhat 5.2 days, a geek at heart, definately not the gnome 3/unity target users. But I have a friend whom I have had running ubuntu and gnome 2 for several years, at least 4. He is the target audience for the unity/gnome 3 desktops, only does email and web surfing, has no computer knowledge to speak of and does not want any. So gnome 3/ unity should be a great fit for him, but he hates it and I had to send him back to gnome 2. Hi.

From a business point of view I with the haters. The life cycle is to short and the changes are to radical. I'll be looking at the new LTS version that now has 5 year life cycle, but I'm still skeptical of Ubuntu in Enterprise environment.

I don't know if I qualify for the moniker "geek type"!

Personally, I tend to "go with the flow". Life's too short to worry about trying to make your OS do what previous ones did. Perhaps my attitude is a result of changing OS every 6 months and not wanting to spend time tweaking.

I see some improvements in the latest version of Unity ... the right-click options.

I've got no problem recommending Ubuntu for anyone who wants a "no fuss" computer system. It works well for those that class themselves as technophobes.
