I have got the router working with WinXP as well as my Ubuntu box however it stopped working on my Linux Box and I suspect it may be a wiring problem is there any way to test the network so I can eliminate software as a cause.

Try swapping cables over or swap the boxes physical locations are the immediate things I would suggest to see whether it is physical or software. Try swapping which port they are plugged into on the router to see if it is port setup. Also many Ethernet devices have a LED to show if there is a network connection - both on the router and the PC. Is this lit? If not, it's more likely to be physical. If lit, more likely to be OS.
