Thanks Ian! I've been wanting to see if Crossover will resovle some issues I've been having getting Windows games to run under my Ubuntu install. If it works with my selection of favourites then it's one step closer to using Linux primarily and Windows sparingly. J On 10/28/08, Ian McDonald <ian.mcdonald(a)jandi.co.nz> wrote:

I've been reading that the servers are somewhat overloaded and downloads are pretty slow. OTOH they've extended the offer to 48 hours. BTW I still have three of your games. I'll try and remember to bring them along to the next meeting.,

I downloaded it, installed it, and can't figure out how to run Windows programs that don't require installation. Maybe I'll still have to use regular WINE. Sandy

Codeweavers have altered their website temporarily. I was able to download the file (it's an .sh file which I will have to learn how to use) . I've aplied for a license code and been advised that they will take 2-3 days to process due to the volume of requests.

No worries. J -- James Pluck PalmOS Ergo Sum "Dear IRS: I would like to cancel my subscription. Please remove my name from your mailing list..."

Currently the downloads are for an unlocked release. They are self-extracting shell scripts (hence the .sh). To install it, just open a terminal and run the script directly, eg: sh ./install-crossover-games-7.1.2.sh This will uncompress the archive then run the installer. IF you run this as a user, it will install into your home directory (and only be useful for your particular user), but if you run it as root (eg, with sudo) it'll install it into /opt and be available to all users.

Thanks Daniel. That'll be very helpful! As a sole user of my linux install it's a moot point but all new information is good! Cheers J On 10/29/08, Daniel Lawson <daniel(a)meta.net.nz> wrote:

Without trying to be nitpicky, is this actually true?
Yes. Currently it's waiting for me to reinstall in a new VM seeing as I reinstalled the OS recently and vmware is playing silly buggers again :( J -- James Pluck PalmOS Ergo Sum "Dear IRS: I would like to cancel my subscription. Please remove my name from your mailing list..."
