I have made some progress on this problem. I upgraded my Sun JVM from 1.3.1_08 to 1.4.2_01 and the problem has very significantly improved, not gone completely though. In due course I think I need to check out the number of objects created by my application as it may be excessive. Thanks again for all the help Roger
