Having got a network and Internet connection sharing set up (thanks Bruce), Xtra is now charging my family for "overlapping usage" via my Linux computer. (The Internet connection is on the family computer, with Windows XP professional.) Initially, web browsing at the same time as other family members was slow; now it seems to be normal dialup speed. Any advice? I'd far rather access slowly than expensively :) ===== -- JaredWigmore -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.12 GCM/CS/S d? s+++:-- a? C++++ UL++ P--- L++ E>+++ W++ N>+ o? K- w--- O? I was unaware this occurred... It's a single connection. Madness. The answer offered by this office is: "sucks to be poor, get ADSL" ;) Aren't we helpful? Seriously, if they are now tracking NATed connections and billing accordingly, I'm not sure what more you can do. Vote with your wallet, and change ISPs I guess. Obviously, after a phone call to confirm they won't screw you in a very uncomfortable place also. Volkswagen calls on a postcard to someone else please. People not getting this joke in an envelope addressed to the same place as the postcard. Regards, Greig.

Switch to paradise!! Although I'm not sure how they can tell 'NAT' from normal usage, are you sure that's what they're charging for, or is someone else using your dialup details at the same time somewhere else?

As a side issue, this is something worth thinking about.... If you're on the net for quite a bit of the time and because of it, you need a second phone line (which seems to be a very common delema), then staying with dialup access is IMO opinion is false economy. By the time you have got a second phone line for $ 29.95 (check out http://www.telecom.co.nz/content/0,3900,100007-1007,00.html) and then pay anything from $ 15.00 per month (with direct tolls access) to around $ 25.00 per month, you are looking at a reasonable aDSL connection. Just my thoughts.

Overlapping usage: http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,6155-1452314,00.html (if the link works) I suspect someone is dialling up with your account simultaniously, not because your NAT-ing... James.
