
OK.. My bad. It seems last time I twiddled with "dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig" I turned on "Autohinting". Bad idea. It makes things fugly. Native is a much better idea. Regards

Are you using an LCD screen? David Turner from Freetype has recently produced a patch to improve sub-pixel anti aliasing, which brings it on par with Microsoft's implementation (and possibly their patents, which is why this isn't currently in by default). Yes I use an LCD. However it is such a high resolution that I rarely notice the colour fringes with sub pixel rendering turned on. It would be cool if those patches got accepted into freetype though. Regards Craig Box wrote:
