Committee meeting this Wednesday

Hi everyone, The Fist has announced the first meeting of its new committee, this Wednesday. There's a draft agenda up at http://www.wlug.org.nz/CommitteeMeetingTopics.2004-09-22 - if anyone wants anything put on the agenda for this meeting, can they please email me. Remember, if we don't know about it, we can't fix it. Regards, Craig

Have my wirelss network (ad-hoc) windows to linux up and running. Can transfer from Windows to/from Linux (appears in My Network Places > Entire Network) but not from Linux to/from Windows. Do I use Samba or what way do I access the network from Linux? TIA Bill __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hi Bill, I really think you should create a new Wiki page and document exactly what you had problems with, and how you got it going. This a) helps other people in a similar situation to get theirs going, and maybe more importantly b) documents it for you yourself for next time so you don't forget what steps you took :) Maybe a page like http://www.wlug.org.nz/WirelessSetupNotes or something...

Samba's probably the easiest way to get a windows machine and a linux machine talking in both directions, or if the linux machine is more of a server then a webserver like apache might be enough... John.

I've had no problems transferring to/from Windows by using smbclient in a terminal session. Interestingly, it demands I enter a password to connect to my WinME computer. It doesn't matter what I enter, it still connects. Michael Bill Rosoman wrote:

samba is the obvious option. You could also set up an ftp server (and use windows built-in ftp, cuteftp, filezilla, etc) or an http server (if you just want to pick up files off the linux box) or scp (part of ssh, probably already installed in Linux, use putty/pscp or winSCP under Windows) It's all educational. Learning is good++

I finally have most of the Ad-Hoc Wireless link working. Only missing Internet connection. Info @ http://www.wlug.org.nz/AdHoc Bill Learning is fun (most of the time LOL) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
