Another lightweight Linux distribution

There's a review of DeLi here: http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=07/01/10/1529228 This runs on 386 class machinery with 4 MB RAM upwards. This might be useful to have in your toolkit with DSL and Puppy which are also well suited to older machines. -- Web: http://wand.net.nz/~iam4 Blog: http://iansblog.jandi.co.nz WAND Network Research Group

I've had no success with installing this. Used Gparted to partition a 500MB disk with (approx) 430MB ext3 and 70MB swap partitions. After "installing" DeLi, and checking again with Gparted, the partitions have disappeared! Is anyone able to report success?

Puppy is quite nice in that when using a live CD you can save all the user settings on a disk without having to install Puppy to the disk. Michael

Sounds like you didn't write the partitioning changes to disk. If you are going to re-partition the whole disk, fdisk should do the job (don't forget to write the changes, using "w" before quitting fdisk). regards, ********************************************* Dr Denise J. Thanks for the suggestion, but that wasn't the case. DeLi install recognised the partitions, asking me to confirm that installation to those partitions. In the case of the swap partition it recommended that I not use mkswap on the linux swap partition. Have just double-checked ... DeLi won't install to a disk without partitions. Michael

I don't think that you understood my rather brief suggestion. To elaborate, do the following: * Boot up with the Deli cd, * Do _not_ start the install process yet. * Type "fdisk /dev/hda" (or whatever hd* corresponds to the HD you are using) * Type "m" to give you your options, if you need more info, * Type "p" to show what partitions you currently have * Type "d" for each partition you want to delete (you will be asked which one) * Type "n" to create each new partition (you will be asked for size and number) * Type "t" to change your swap partition to 82 * Type "w" to write changes to disk, * Type "q" to quit * Reboot and try your installation again (forget about Deli's partitioning tools)
Have just double-checked ... DeLi won't install to a disk without partitions.
I agree regards, ********************************************* Dr Denise J. Bates, PO Box 50, Meremere 2441 New Zealand E-mail: dbates(a)iconz.co.nz Telephone 09-2336433 Mobile 021-2541330 *********************************************
