If you upgrade turn off the lock screen on Xscreensaver (if you use it). If the screen locks during the upgrade the system will not let you back in even with your own password, it does something screwy with PAM modules and locks everybody out whilst waiting for reply to numerous .config replace confirmation prompts. You'll probably have to re-install anyway. Wasn't there just a discussion that it screws around with sudo also ... probably same thing as with PAM module frigging around?
