Windows dominates non-console gaming, of course. But according to this report <https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/08/linux-surpasses-the-mac-among-steam-gamers/>, the number 2 platform (or platform family) is Linux, admittedly quite a way behind at 1.96%, ahead of the Apple Mac at 1.84%. Of the Linux share, 42% is made up of users of the Steam Deck, which is a handheld device (presumably the rest come from the various more conventional desktop distros). Microsoft has taken note of this, and is reportedly working on a “Handheld Mode” for Windows, which so far is still vapourware. Apple is also trying to do its own porting kit for Windows games to run better on Mac, analogous to WINE/Proton for Linux.
