debian console issue.

OK, I am kinda stumped. I admin a server for someone, it runs debian sarge. The guy is telling me that from within mc, he can use caps and not use caps fine, but when he drops to a console, he only gets caps, even with the caps key off. Now, I can see this thru ssh. Any ideas? Michael

Did you log in with your usename in all caps? If you do, it thinks your terminal can only display caps and converts everything to caps.

No, I type in my user name etc all in lower case. Everything works fine from ssh.. sorry, I for got the "'t" in can. Should have read "can't" I wondered if there were different console settings for actual tty's verses ssh consoles and thats why I can't see the issue. Michael

I was meaning on the console. Try logging in with shift held down on the console and you'll see that everything is in upper case.

Neat, I didn't know about that, although it explains why my console is very occasionally in all caps. If you run the `reset` command then it goes back to showing lowercase letters. Of course, if you type in the command with caps lock on, then it tries to run the non-existent command `RESET`, and you'll get an error. John

I *can't* see this via ssh... man, I need to proof read my emails. Michael Michael J Knox wrote:
