I'm installing this at present. As a word of warning to others - check what it defaults to - even though I had NTFS on my hard disc it's default install was to install on WHOLE hard disk and erase all partitions. Ubuntu hasn't done this to me previously, so watch out and don't just click next, next, next.... -- Web1: http://wand.net.nz/~iam4/ Web2: http://www.jandi.co.nz Blog: http://iansblog.jandi.co.nz

Wow... I like that feature... Now, if they had worked on it so that it would keep all the data, emails, etc.etc, but replace the applications, like replace word, excel, p/pt with open office, that would be awesome :) On Fri, 2007-10-19 at 11:37 +1300, Ian McDonald wrote:

I would consider that a very serious BUG which is going to lead to many more 'linux ate my hard-drive' horror stories. Any idea why they changed the default?

Perhaps just oversight in the testing/QA process?
I would say so. Just installed it on a work laptop tonight and it respected the partitions on that... -- Web1: http://wand.net.nz/~iam4/ Web2: http://www.jandi.co.nz Blog: http://iansblog.jandi.co.nz

Agreed... As much as I joked about the situation (re. my previous posting on this topic), it's not a good thing to happen, even if it happens every other time..

Man, it is so broken for upgrading... My nvidia drivers are just going haywire... On Fri, 2007-10-19 at 11:37 +1300, Ian McDonald wrote:

That would have something to do with them being proprietary and unsupported.... Thanks for the heads-up though, I'll try it out on a non-essential machine before upgrading anything important, most of my video cards are using the non-free nvidia drivers.

I did the change to 7.10 yesterday. No problems so far. To get the fancy graphics, the system insisted that I install proprietary driver for my Nvidia card - and warned me of the risks of doing so. Getting just over 1000 fps from glxgears. Google Earth is running OK too. Have a problem with my scanner, but that developed before the change ... can scan in Windows but not Ubuntu, 6.10 (which is what I was previously running) or 7.10. Need to do more investigating of that problem ... which has been noted by others (getting "Invalid Argument" message). Michael

Now what's that about "famous last words". I pressed "send" and requested the system update (timezone data) then my screen went dim and the system failed to respond. Restarted X (Ctl/Alt/Bksp) and I'm back in business. Michael

Mythbuntu 7.10 hasn't been released yet. I filed a bug report with Mythbuntu on Saturday, which they have since fixed It should be released by the end of the month. -- simon On 22/10/2007, Albert van Aardt <albertva(a)igrin.co.nz> wrote:
