The meeting appears to be quite old, way back in August 2004 but any information would be nice. Thanks

Hello,
I was browsing the Google Groups and came across a meeting mentioning that someone will be going through setting up an Xbox Media Centre.
The reason for my email is that not only is that something I will be looking at doing myself but its also a great idea for a meeting.
I'm a member of ManLUG which I believe was the first LUG in the United Kingdom and sometimes the meeting are a little dull, I've tried to liven them up recently, last time I did an EeePC demonstration and run through but as stated above, I'm looking at doing an Xbox media centre at some point and a recreation of the meeting that you had might be another good meeting.
I just wondered if anyone had any resources at all from that meeting?
thanks
Lee

I remember that meeting. Being a Linux Users Group, I think the meeting focus was more on "running Linux on your XBOX", but touched on XBMC as another thing you can run. I ran it at home in NZ, it's fantastic: open source, and being ported to Linux for use on other hardware. (Compiled versions for the XBOX are of dubious legality due to Microsoft only allowing partners to compile using the SDK, and then only for "boxed product". Installing XBMC for XBOX comes down to "mod your X-Box and then put a CD in." You could run through that as a meeting demo if you wanted to prove how easy it is! The tricky part is finding the CD, as it is usually acquired from a friend, IRC channel or BitTorrent, due to the aforementioned SDK issues. Information on how to do this is a quick Google search away. Craig
