Steve Ballmer clarifies MS position on IP rights since Novell Deal

It would be so much simpler if Microsoft just told people what parts of the Linux kernel they believe infringe their patents. If proved true, kernel developers could rewrite those parts of the kernel and thus eliminate the patent infringement. It seems to me that Microsoft is more interested in maintaining the threat of requiring revenue for IP rights than actually spelling out what IP it believes it owns. It seems to be working as some big sums of money change hands for something as yet undefined. On 21/02/07, James Pluck <papabearnz(a)gmail.com> wrote:

Indeed. A much better idea would be to fix the problem, not the blame. As you mention MS seem to be wanting to fix the blame so they can charge for it or demand it be shut down. All the while they complain publicly of being the poor maligned company who is wronged by the evil linux people stealing their hard work (which of course everyone believes *grin*) J -- James Pluck PalmOS Ergo Sum "Dear IRS: I would like to cancel my subscription.
