Problems with sending email

I have thuderbird and Evolution Installed on Ubuntu 6.10 and am able to receive mail but am unable to send inspite of giving them the correct password. When I type it in it just re asks me for the password. I wondered if it was a bug that the two programs had in common as I am able to send Email with Opera in Ubuntu 6.10. This problem seemed to come after I had upgraded from the upgrade icon a few days ago. Ron Dean -- Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/

Most smtp servers (in NZ at least) don't require authentication, and usually don't know what to do when presented with it. I run into this situation a lot because it's also the default setting for Thunderbird. Just change the smtp server setting to unauthenticated (in TB the option is "use username and password" and it needs to be unchecked) and see if that fixes it...
