I've just viewed both www.wlug.org.nz and www2.wlug.org.nz using lynx on RH6.1 without ipv6 compiled in. No, I very much doubt it is XP causing the problem.
The main difference between
www.wlug.org.nz and www2.wlug.org.nz is IPv6 dns records
See
matt(a)argon:~$ host -t AAAA www.wlug.org.nz www.wlug.org.nz is an alias for hoiho.wlug.org.nz. hoiho.wlug.org.nz has AAAA address 2002:cb61:a32::1
matt(a)argon:~$ host -t A www.wlug.org.nz www.wlug.org.nz is an alias for hoiho.wlug.org.nz. hoiho.wlug.org.nz has address 203.97.10.50
Vs
matt(a)argon:~$ host -t AAAA www2.wlug.org.nz matt(a)argon:~$
matt(a)argon:~$ host -t A www2.wlug.org.nz www2.wlug.org.nz has address 203.97.10.50
So if you can get to www2, but not www then it suggests that you are possibly having a problem with IPv6.
Without knowing how your network is setup it is hard to help you fix it. Perhaps if you provided some more details regarding your network setup and your ISP I could help.
Alternatively, you could just use www2 and be done with it.
Regards

Sorry if you've already said this, but:
Which operating system / distribution are you using, and which version? Which browser are you using, and which version?
(just trying to see if there's an obvious reason for www.wlug.org.nz to not work for you).

Yep. That should work just fine. It'll only be a problem (Perry reassures me) if you have IPv6 installed and misconfigured, or there is a misconfigured IPv6 host between you and www.wlug.org.nz. Of course, we're "kinda" misconfigured also, as we're using 6to4 instead of a "real" IPv6 address... but that's a whole other story. It's a correctly configured 6to4 address... ;) Anyway... Can we bury this thread now? It's just descending into spurious logic and making small kittens spontaneously explode. G.

The folks have a problem and some of us are interested in the fix, should it come, in case we too run into this same problem. Is this not what this forum is for?

A. We had the answer to the problem a long time ago - Lindsay, or someone between him and www.wlug.org.nz, has a misconfigured IPv6 configuration. I seriously doubt we can fix this for him without physical access to his system, as his skill level seems particularly basic, and it's a complex issue anyway. The workaround is that he use www2. Further discussion is pointless in my opinion. B. The logic being employed ("I use XP and it won't work, therefore no XP system works with www.wlug.org.nz") is just infuriating, and is counterproductive. My response to this was less than tolerant, and I apologise, but I would like people to exercise a bit more common sense before leaping to silly conclusions. C. It's a mailing list. Forums are those silly web-based things where p30p13 t41k l1|<e th1s. ;) Regards, Greig.

I accept all your comments Greig and hope we can still help cure this particular user related problem. Don't know if it is relevant or not but recently I seem to be getting two copies of everything from your mailing list, and only your mailing list. Not sure if I did something this end whilst trying to assist or not. One of your comments above comes to mind: " and it's a complex issue anyway ". -- Newbie Seeking USER_FUNCTIONALITY always! My guess is that some posts are using "reply to all", and you're getting both the reply to the list, and the one sent specifically to you. This happens sometimes. This list uses reply-to munging, which is the subject of a religious war, and as such, a bit of a controversial issue. The upshot is that if you hit "reply" to a list post, it goes to the list, not the individual that sent it. This is USUALLY the intention, but sometimes, people are used to non-munged lists, and hit "reply to all" to ensure the post goes to the list AND the individual. Check the headers on the duplicate messages, and see if that's the case. If not, you may be subscribed twice. Craig can check the subscriber list and confirm this, if the former reason is not the case. Regards, Greig.
