Where do I go on the Internet ask general questions about Debian Lenny?

Where do I go on the Internet ask general questions about Debian Lenny? (The question is: I've installed 'update-notifier', but it never notifies me of any package updates. The README gives me a feeling I'm supposed to set something up, but I'm not sure what or how.) --Glyn

The first place I would look would me mailing list archives (debian specific) or one of the debian IRC channels.

At a guess, you probably need to run 'update-notifier' in your Gnome or KDE session .. Under Ubuntu it's System > Preferences > Session to have things run automatically at login (In Jaunty it's renamed to Startup Applications), it's probably somewhere similar in Debian.

I find the Debian forums are a good resource: http://forums.debian.net/ Or using this google interface to the user list: http://groups.google.com/group/linux.debian.user/topics When I plugged "update-notifier" in the search box on that user list page, the first thread that came up talks about restoring update-notifier in gnome: http://tinyurl.com/cgg9mr There is a panel applet called "notification area", where update-notifier puts the alert, make sure you have that on one of your panels.
