US Patent Office To Standardize On DOCX

The US Patent Office will henceforth only accept submissions in Microsoft DOCX, aka ISO 29500 format <https://www.theregister.com/2021/05/27/uspto_pdf_charge/>. I agree that trying to do automatic processing of PDF submissions must have been a pain, but why not accept ODF, aka ISO 26300, as well, or even as the preferred format? It should be easier to deal with.

The UK Government agrees. Here <https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/open-standards-for-government/sharing-or-collaborating-with-government-documents> is its guidance on “sharing or collaborating with government documents”: use ODF 1.2.
