Hello all It just gets better all the time. Matt told me to bring a full distro (after showing me e-live) and see if it installs ok if not get some thing else. I cant argue with that so will try it before long Watch this space. John ----- Original Message Follows -----
another Hint ... If you go into the powerhouse store, Ask Matt at the Support counter of his opinion, After he gets past how great e-live is as a distro if the store wont let you boot a live Linux cd, you should be looking elsewhere. Again Matt will have some experience here as its his "Job" to try these sorts of things (and he gets to mix business and pleasure)
At the end of the Day you can never do too much homework.
Good luck and let us know what you end up with and why.

Again, as Craig suggested, take an Ubuntu livecd into DSE and try it out. > _______________________________________________ wlug mailing list | wlug(a)list.waikato.ac.nz Unsubscribe: http://list.waikato.ac.nz/mailman/listinfo/wlug >

Wow, that's pretty cool. Does DSE support this procedure, do you know, or is it just that he likes to tinker himself? Because if DSE supports that, I couldn't help but recommend them to others.

I don't think its policy, but as all the staff have to do afterwards is run the system restore disk to have a clean system Its an excellent idea. Also it increases the local knowledge in the shop. Kudos to matt for this. But as he is a real tech, Part of the sales staff, and a linux geek on the side. Its just the sort of option he would come up with. Personally its just straight up excellent service. Is there a service award in Hamilton we can recommend him for , maybe a radio stations morning tea or something, They used to have them, could we recommend matt as A++ for service ???

I imagine this is just an individual staff member being helpful. DSE has been incredibly supportive of Linux in the past however, they ship OpenOffice and friends on pretty much any product support CD they can, provide Linux support for many products and are generally just all around helpful. They've also sponsored the WLUG Installfest in the past. An excellent company to support with your purchasing $$ in my opinion :) -- Matt Brown matt(a)mattb.net.nz Mob +64 21 611 544 www.mattb.net.nz
