"Version 6.0 of the free operating system OpenBSD has just been released. This release features much improved hardware and armv7 support, a new tool called proot for building software ports in an isolated chroot environment, W^X that is now strictly enforced by default, and removal of official support for Linux emulation, usermount, and systrace." -- source: https://bsd.slashdot.org/story/16/09/01/2147233 Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann Dept. of Computer Science University of Waikato, NZ +64 (7) 858-5174 http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ http://www.data-mining.co.nz/

In the release notes <http://www.openbsd.org/60.html>, this is listed under “security improvements”. A user comment on the Phoronix item <http://phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=OpenBSD-6.0-Released> says they mainly hacked the Linux emulation in to be able to run Adobe Flash Player and other proprietary stuff. So dropping that definitely counts as a security improvement...

On the other hand, FreeBSD takes Linux support much more seriously, with an emulation layer specifically targetting Centos 7 <http://phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=FreeBSD-CentOS7-Compat-Layer>.

By the way <http://www.openbsd.org/60.html>: New/extended platforms: ... vax: Removed. Those who remember, feel free to offer a minute’s silence. ;)
