My aim is to learn how to use Linux. I am working through the RHCT course content topic list, gettting the info from the RedHat 9 Bible. However I feel like a blind man tapping around with a white stick. I am using it because it is a structured course from which I can learn how to use Linux. Is anybody a RH Certified Technician or had experience with the training course for this qualification? I need some advice/guidance on what I should be doing.

If your aim is to learn how to use Linux, then just read the books and do things. Install machines from scratch, play with different distributions, configure networking, etc. There is really no better way to learn than by doing, and remember that some of the people here have been using Linux for many years, so it's not an instant thing. If you want to become an RHCT, then you need to either have an RHCT coursebook or do an RHCT course. There is really no other way to do it - I believe that most of the RH course details are under NDA. If you are "good with Linux" you might be able to pass bits of the course without studying, but there are RH specific parts that aren't standard day to day operations and won't be covered in a generic "learn RH9" book. I've just updated my RHCE which incorporates the RHCT as well. Basically, I'm under an NDA (this REALLY sucks) and can't divulge what sort of questions you'll be asked, or indeed even the format of the exam. What I can tell you is that a few minutes with Google will give you the experiences and advice of those who are willing to violate their NDA, and will give you the format of the exam. As far as my suggestions go, learn good basic Linux/UNIX administration tasks, and then learn the "redhat way" of accomplishing those tasks. Know your redhat system inside out - don't learn by rote, understand it. G.
