Install an Open Source Dropbox Alternative on Linux in 10 Steps

"Dropbox has made its mark as an integral productivity tool. Simple file sharing and syncing makes it easy to keep all your important documents and files on hand, wherever you are. If you're anything like me, you've hit the space limit of your free Dropbox account, and wondered if the Open Source world has any alternatives. Good news! Sparkleshare has you covered. Combined with a Bitbucket account and a little effort, you can have practically unlimited storage, for free!" -- source: http://www.linux.com/learn/tutorials/734125-how-to-install-sparkleshare-your... Or... host the whole thing yourself with Owncloud owncloud.org, there is an opensouce and Enterprise version. With clients for most OSs and devices. No brainer to install. Works well for me. GregM On 22/08/2013 11:57 AM, "Peter Reutemann" <fracpete(a)waikato.ac.nz> wrote:

I'll +1 owncloud. The awesome thing about owncloud is that the files are stored encrypted, which keeps your files protected from the eyes of the NSA or your hosting provider. It also has calendar and contacts features, and these can be synced to/from your mobile phone (I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S3) and mail clients (built in for Evolution or using the SoGo connector for Thunderbird. -- simon
