Hi everyone We have a meeting coming up next Monday: "Peter Reutemann will demo Alpine Linux, a security-oriented, lightweight Linux distribution based on musl libc and busybox. Discussion of March meeting: potential introduction to git version control, in conjunction with CS^3 student society from Computer Science. Discussion of meetup.com's new pricing strategy: going up from USD 12 per 6 months to USD 29.94 per 6 months. Feel like demoing another distro? Or some other great open-source tool (doesn't necessarily have to be Linux)? Then let me know." http://www.meetup.com/WaikatoLinuxUsersGroup/events/228718557/ Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann Dept. of Computer Science University of Waikato, NZ +64 (7) 858-5174 http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ http://www.data-mining.co.nz/

Hi, I won't be able to make this WLUG meeting as I am away. In terms of pricing for meetup.com - that is quite an increase in pricing. Meetup.com doesn't really seem to bring new people along to the meetings. It might be better to save these costs and create the wlug meeting invites as a blog post or just as a post on the mailing list. If you need pamphlets for March meeting I would happily make some. Cheers, William. On Wed, Feb 17, 2016 at 8:48 AM, Peter Reutemann <fracpete(a)waikato.ac.nz> wrote:

We're over the magic threshold of 50 members, which pushed us into another plan as well.

Actually, it did. Quite a number of people found us through meetup.com. Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann Dept. of Computer Science University of Waikato, NZ +64 (7) 858-5174 http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ http://www.data-mining.co.nz/

But I’ve never seen 50 people turn up to a meeting.

That’s good. But I’m beginning to wonder what other purpose it serves. I previously mentioned getting a “nice to see you” from someone whom I didn’t recall seeing at the meeting. Lawrence

No, they count people that are registered with a group. Whether they show up or not to meetings is irrelevant. Unfortunately, the interface only shows when they last visited the meetup.com site, not when the last meeting was that they attended (or at least RSVP'ed).

Looks like they were there in spirit at least... :-) Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann Dept. of Computer Science University of Waikato, NZ +64 (7) 858-5174 http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ http://www.data-mining.co.nz/
