Hello, Raspberry Pi 3 was just released. The highlights of the model: Raspberry Pi 3 - Model B Technical Specification Broadcom BCM2387 chipset 1.2GHz Quad-Core ARM Cortex-A53 802.11 bgn Wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.1 (Bluetooth Classic and LE) 1GB RAM 64 Bit CPU I think I am most excited about the 64 Bit CPU. What's also amazing is they have kept the same price as the Raspberry Pi 2 - 35 pounds. I'm happy with my Raspberry Pi 2 setup but keen to pick one of these up (still can't get a zero). Blog post: https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/raspberry-pi-3-on-sale/ cheers, William.

Yeah, but unfortunately the same crap initial boot process (makes running U-boot properly impossible), the same crap BCM238x SOC and the same crap DDR2 memory. I have a PINE64 on order which should arrive before the end of month. Will be interesting to compare. Cheers Michael.

How do you guys feel like given a shootout/demo at the next meeting? RPi3 vs PINE64? Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann Dept. of Computer Science University of Waikato, NZ +64 (7) 858-5174 http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ http://www.data-mining.co.nz/

Might be a bit risky to yes at this point. The PINE64 is promised to be delivered this month, but it might not arrive to the end of the month. And there might be a bit of work getting it up and going. Cheers Michael.

@Michael Good point. @William Will you have RPi3 for the next meeting? It could always be a RPi3 evening and if Michael shouldn't get hold of his PINE64, then Michael could always demo it at the next meeting ("Revenge of the PINE64!")... Yeah I should have mine. I ordered mine from Element14 and they are currently processing the order. They had 118 or so in stock when I ordered and 14 left after I finished my order. The next batch is due in 3rd March. Hopefully I get one from the first batch. I should have it by next wlug meeting but just gimme a few days. Will let you know as soon as it ships. The PINE64 looks very cool and I wouldn't mind one of them.

Hi, My Raspberry Pi 3 has arrived. It's booting successfully. Have yet to get wireless/bluetooth working. Happy to demo it at next wlug meeting. Cheers, William On Tue, Mar 1, 2016 at 9:40 PM, William Mckee <will(a)artcontrol.me> wrote:

Awesome! Just updated the meetup: http://www.meetup.com/WaikatoLinuxUsersGroup/events/229051656/ Just a shame that I won't be able to attend... :-( Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann Dept. of Computer Science University of Waikato, NZ +64 (7) 858-5174 http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ http://www.data-mining.co.nz/
