Anti-systemd Trolls

I keep wondering about these random names who pop up with all the badmouthing every time somebody mentions something about systemd. I don’t recall any faces at WLUG meetings that go with them. Who are you and where do you come from? Do you people have any interest in the Waikato Linux User Group at all, or are you just here to shoot your mouths off?

Also when we had the systemd topic at meetup there was no one there to show how awful it is. Bunch of pussies. Cheers, William.

Perhaps the rest of us just don't want to get into a shooting match with you, Lawrence. People with differing options to you are not necessarily trolls, and if anyone is shooting their mouth off, it's you. Your consistently aggressive stance on the subject is unnecessary and unbecoming. There is a certain style of ... “debate” (to put it broadly) <http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Troll>. Particularly from those with no experience of the subject--as I tried to determine from repeated questioning.

*Yawn* We’ve been through this nonsense before <https://www.meetup.com/WaikatoLinuxUsersGroup/events/231330392/>. As William pointed out, after yet more criticism online, nobody actually turned up in person to point out why systemd was so “awful”.

Eric is right, by last night I'd given up, didn't see the point. You weren't listening. I presented my current peeves against systemd and barely even got an acknowledgment they are a problem, big or small. But by your own standard <http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Troll>, fishing me with questions about my personal experience *was* the trolling. Of course I ignored those "questions" as they weren't material to the facts I posted. I wasn't fishing you at all, I presented facts. My personal working experience with Linux is immaterial to the facts in the bug reports and news articles about systemd. What set of experience and credentials would have acceptable to you? You already had your big WLUG meeting and determined for all time in one evening that systemd is beyond reproach and no further argumentation on it will ever be accepted. You don't care about the bugs and articles that have come up, or that Linus Torvalds himself has said he can't trust "init" to do the sane thing anymore. If the founder of the Kernel isn't good enough for you to at least admit there could be a problem, I'm not going to change your mind. On 07/27/2017 09:52 AM, Lawrence D'Oliveiro wrote:

Anything greater than zero would have been something. So far you have offered zero.

LBT has competencies in some things, RMS has competencies in some things. In those areas, we take them seriously, outside them, we choose to exercise some judgement.

Cut out this nonsense. This is not how we conduct civil discourse. If you want to go all passive-aggressive on an unwitting audience, do it somewhere else.

Because you are owed zero. Who is we? On 07/27/2017 11:48 AM, Lawrence D'Oliveiro wrote:

I'm not talking about systemd, I'm talking about your toxicity. I've seen it multiple times on this mailing list, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Your contributions to this list are genuinely excellent, but whenever someone disagrees with you they end up berated and called names. My response to you is "nonsense"? People with opposing feelings on systemd are nothing more than trolls? You think Bryan owed you a response to your gish gallop? Nah mate - you're just bullying, and I'm calling you out on it. "Yawn" indeed. E ---- On Thu, 27 Jul 2017, at 09:52, Lawrence D'Oliveiro wrote:

Some of us actually get work done with this stuff. I thought that was the whole point of WLUG -- to help each other with exactly that. So when some random person with no experience pops up, uncritically regurgitating some badmouthing they heard somewhere on the Internet, that is not helpful at all. In short, don’t try to defend the indefensible. You just get lumped in with them.
