Meeting topics for Monday 24th Sept

Hi All, Does anyone have anything they would like to present at the next Monday meeting, or any requests for presentations that some of our members may be able to fill? I see from the committee meeting minutes suggestions include android and btrfs. I would be happy to collaborate with someone on an Android presentation as I think being such a diverse platform a presentation could benefit from multiple points of view - maybe we could have an android show and tell? Does anyone have a decent quality webcam or video camera that could be used to show Android demos on the big screen? Or a rooted android device with a VNC server or similar? Cheers, Rene --

Has anybody been using the Android emulator for developing apps? That could of interest, too... http://developer.android.com/tools/help/emulator.html Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann, Dept. of Computer Science, University of Waikato, NZ http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ Ph. +64 (7) 858-5174

A few thoughts ... I could give a short demo of Scribus - though might be a "ho-hum" topic for some. Don't know if the program is well-known. If not, it could with some publicity.

I have been successful with in getting my Android 2.2. phone to display on the computer by installing the Android SDK on the computer and connecting the phone to the computer with a USB cable, selecting "USB debug mode" for the connection. There are some limitations to what can be displayed. One of our (wlug) acquaintances found his "low-end" Android tablet would connect to the HDMI port of a modern data projector. Michael

I second that. Always wanted to get familiar with Scribus, but never got around to. Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann, Dept. of Computer Science, University of Waikato, NZ http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ Ph. +64 (7) 858-5174
