Hi folks I've been meaning to test-drive Yoper for a while (and now it has KDE 3.3 :-) But I haven't been able to find a spot on yoper.com where I can buy a CD copy of the latest version and my 33k dial-up connection is a little shy about the bittorrent that has kindly been made available. Does someone have a CD? Happy to pay student prices :-) Cheers, Sid.

I downloaded yoper the other day.. had the interntions of installing it.. but i installed another redhat box instead. the iso is on my server and i could be convinced to write it off. where do you live.

Hamilton, near the uni. Are you in Hamilton? Many thanks, Sid.

Im after a small linux distro, with samba.. and thats about it.. and possibly a nice web front end to add samba users and shares or something.. I want something like openfiler but a lot simpler.. just running out of IDE channels in my machines and still have harddrives to add to my lan.. if i could add them to a low powered box and use it for a NAS id be happy. if theres no distro out there that does this as default ill roll my own. How about NASlite? """NASLite is a Network Attached Storage (NAS) server operating system designed to transform a basic computer into a dedicated file server. Utilizing highly optimized versions of Samba, uCLibc, BusyBox, and various other Linux tools, it provides SMB/CIFS, FTP, or NFS filesystem support. It accommodates multiple client OSes: Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. NASLite offers SMART disk monitoring and large file support, and is incredibly easy to install and administer.""" *http://freshmeat.net/projects/naslite/ http://www.serverelements.com/naslite.php M * Kyle Carter wrote:

I've just downloaded and booted NASLite-FTP on an old machine. Very easy to start using (even for a newbie such as myself). Nice piece of work.
Thanks for the info Malcolm!
I tried the samba version.. its pretty good.. but it isnt suitable for my home lan as it only uses the local subnet, and i have more than one subnet that i need to access the data from. id also prefer something that i can name the shares to something more than disk1 and disk2 .. but its still impressive for a floppy nas unit.. i sure hope once they move to a hdd or cdrom based system they can offer things that they dont at the moment due to size constraints. -- Kyle Carter

Ahh, of course! I normally get my Slackware from there. I'll see what Kyle can do especially since copyleft haven't got your latest and greatest. By the way, I've read about there being a KDE-"optimised" version of OpenOffice.org. Is that the version that Yoper includes? Many thanks, Sid.
