Re: [wlug] more laptop consideration

Sorry to hear about the issues, I have several acers and we had a similar but easily fixed problem.
The poor airflow is really bad dust protection, So what we do is use a household vacuum cleaner and the crevice tool (narrow slot thing) to vacuum all the cooling ports.
Phew I bet you have to chock the fan first or it would huper drive :-) <quote> Laptops are great but if you want a workhorse that keeps on trucking for years at a time, nothing beats a (under-the-)desktop box. ;)<end quote> I agree with Oliver but a desk top is hard get get around with.. John

Yep, they spin, It sounds real impressive, but remember, that I am not opening the case, so I am some distance from the fan so its not as awful as it first sounds, also the high speed air is being used to loosen the dust accumulation on the heatsink. be patient it can take 20-30 seconds to do the job. Its not that different from what we did when I was a Compaq tech many years ago And I even vacuum my Desktops, only I don't use the crevice tool so that its not quite so aggressive. You need to see how bad this dust issue gets on heatsinks, and if the heatsink cant work its a really bad situation. I now have visions of LUG meetings with keys missing from laptops where ...
