Hi, Thanks for all the help. Bnonn I tried:
$ sudo aptitude update $ aptitude install gnucash
Update worked, but install didnt. The highlight (lowloght) was: ** Couldn't find any package whose name or description matched "gnucash" ** Then I tried Synaptic Package Manager (as Matt suggested) - Did not work at first, but tweaked it a bit and got it going. It took forever to download - I think my modem must be in v.34 Mode or something - will have to investigate. BTW GNUCash seems to suit our needs. Thanks again for all the help. Ivan

Hi Ivan. You may need to edit your sources.list file in /etc/apt, as this defines which repositories aptitude will search for a package. Most likely, gnucash isn't in Main, which is the only repo which Ubuntu has enabled by default. When you edit sources.list, you'll see that the universe repos are commented out; simply remove the comments and things should work a lot better. You can also duplicate the universe lines and replace "universe" with "multiverse" for even more packages, albeit ones not certified "free". Regards Bnonn
