OK here is the technical stuff: On my Linux System, Under the edit Connections Tab, I have the following entered: Connection Name: Affordable Wired Network Tab Mac Address: Empty MTU: Automatic 802.1x Security Value: not checked IPv4 Settings: Method: manual Address: 192.168.0.2 Netmask: 255.255.0.2 Gateway: 0.0.0.0 IPv6 Settings: Method: Ignore. Interesting note: whatever value I add in the IPv4 Gateway, always ends up as 0.0.0.0. Shouldn't it be 192.168.0.1? I have turned my PC's Firewall Off (the default firewall for Vista Home Premium). Hi, I don't use a GUI on any Linux system but your netmask is wrong, should end in 0 not 2 (255.255.0.0) Could cause odd issues if honored, and yes, your gateway should be an IP address. Hey Steve. Thanks for the quick reply. I just changed the netmask settings but still no joy. Restarted the network connection but the netmask property under connection information remains 255.255.255.254. Like I don't have permission to change the value so its not letting me. I'm glad they have a GUI for that, I wouldn't know which file I would need to edit. Still pinging from Windows gives a time out error. Glenn.
