Upgrading from ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10 on my laptop

Would it be a good idea to upgrade as I have every thing working on my laptop including wireless internet I have already upgraded my Desktop Computer by doing a fresh install and have eventually got everything working but with my laptop I had a considerable amount of help from wlug members. My 2c worth - if it does everything you want - why bother upgrading? On Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 10:26 AM, Ron Dean <rvdean(a)ihug.co.nz> wrote:

Especially since 8.04 comes with LTS (= long term support) and is supported till 04/2011. Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann, Dept. of Computer Science, University of Waikato, NZ http://www.cs.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ Ph. +64 (7) 858-5174

I'd advise sticking with Hardy, at least until next year's workshops start so we can fix all the things that end up broken ;) .. I'm planning to keep using Hardy myself for a while, intrepid has a few bugfixes and new features but nothing worth the hassle of upgrading imho.

That is basically what I was thinking. Thanks everybody for the replies -- Ron Dean 2 Shannon Place Nawton Hamilton Ph 8493904

Upgrading to Intrepid hasn't been entirely smooth for me on a Dell Inspiron 6400 ... video driver bugs (Intel, had to install from latest sources, hopefully a patch becomes available), poor performance from Firefox, emacs-gtk causes Metacity to hang when alt-tabbing or resizing windows etc. Seems overall less well tested and debugged than previous releases. Stick with Hardy for now would be my advice! -- Sam On Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 10:49 AM, Ron Dean <rvdean(a)ihug.co.nz> wrote:
