upcoming meeting - topics?

Hi everyone For the upcoming meeting on the 29th, we still need some topics. How about reviving the topics from last meeting, which didn't happen in the end: Scribus and Android? Other suggestions welcome! Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann, Dept. of Computer Science, University of Waikato, NZ http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ Ph. +64 (7) 858-5174

Can do Scribus if I don't end up in hospital again. Michael

I hope it's not the talk putting you there... Just added you to the list of speakers. Thanks for volunteering again. Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann, Dept. of Computer Science, University of Waikato, NZ http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ Ph. +64 (7) 858-5174

Anybody keen on giving demo of Ubuntu 12.10? Unity fans? ;-) Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann, Dept. of Computer Science, University of Waikato, NZ http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ Ph. +64 (7) 858-5174

I had a talk to Lindsay about presenting something on XEN (Liz was busy) because there seemed to be a lot of interest in it. On 19 October 2012 18:46, Peter Reutemann <fracpete(a)waikato.ac.nz> wrote:

So, that's a definite yes for XEN then? Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann, Dept. of Computer Science, University of Waikato, NZ http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ Ph. +64 (7) 858-5174

The meeting is this Monday? I'd better call him again and confirm. .. yep, no problem. On 19 October 2012 20:33, Peter Reutemann <fracpete(a)waikato.ac.nz> wrote:

Ohhh... I thought it was the fourth Monday of the month. 29th will make things much less rushed. On 19 October 2012 21:03, Peter Reutemann <fracpete(a)waikato.ac.nz> wrote:

Usually it is. But Monday is Labour Day. :-) Cheers, Peter -- Peter Reutemann, Dept. of Computer Science, University of Waikato, NZ http://www.cms.waikato.ac.nz/~fracpete/ Ph. +64 (7) 858-5174

Hi Folks, I've downloaded and installed Ubuntu Unity 12.10. I'll bring the PC along to the next meeting and if there's a time-slot available we can demo it. My impression so far is that there are not many new features. Maybe we could play a 10 minute game of "Spot The Differences" (i.e. What's different between 12.10 and previous versions of Ubuntu?). The winner gets a bootable 12.10 DVD ! ...Note: the .iso doesn't fit on a CD any more ...so there's the first difference! Additionally: If anyone is interested in how to embed Python code into OpenOffice / LibreOffice ODF files, then I have a little "Hello World" demonstration that will give you an idea of what's involved to develop and test your Python code, and then the process to follow for inserting the code into the ODF file. This would be about a 15 minute demo. cheers, Ian.

Prehaps hold back on the python/ODF stuff, and run a lightning talk meeting early next year. A few different speakers, 10-15 minutes, on whatever pet project they have? Anyone else have an idea they would like to lightning talk?
