Development Activity In LibreOffice Versus OpenOffice

LWN has a comparison <http://lwn.net/Articles/637735/> of the relative health of the two main OpenOffice forks. Summary: in the last 4½ years, one project has done precisely two releases, while the other has managed over a dozen. In the last year, one has received contributions from just 16 developers, while the other has benefited from the work of around 16 times that number.

While LibreOffice does seem to have been a very successful fork of OpenOffice there is one area where I default to OpenOffice.
From my experience in using the forum "Macros and UNO API" I find the OpenOffice forum superior to the LibreOffice forum.
The OpenOffice forum on Macro and UNO API claims to have over 5000 topics and over 25000 posts, while LibreOffice has 290 topics and 815 posts. However the OpenOffice forum only displays posts since October 2007. I'm not sure why. It seems that many of those who regularly volunteer to post replies on OpenOffice have stayed on with posting on OpenOffice. For example, there is "Villaroy" who has made over 19,500 posts. Plus "pitonyak" continues to post. Andrew Pitonyak is the main author of user manuals on writing macros. These can be downloaded from his web-site. cheers, Ian.
