Recent version of The Gimp have changed the useability a lot, for instance by making the "right click" menu permanently dock'd into the top of the image window by default, which tends to avoid the "what on earth do I do now?" problem.
Actually I was comparing a very recent version of Gimp I have here at work, it was at the same point release at least. Just upgraded to the latest and I can't say I see much difference in the UI and I really don't think that menu thing helps much. Photoshop on the other hand I haven't really used intensively since version 5.5 so if anything, I'm possibly underestimating the difference. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Photoshop has a perfect interface or anything but Gimp's is pretty awful in comparison. Matt Browne
