Meeting topics for 23 Jul 2012

Hi all, Does anyone have any subjects they would be willing to present at the next Monday meeting (in a weeks time)? Or for any upcoming meetings for that matter? I have a Raspberry PI on order (as I suspect a few others do too) which I am happy to bring along for a look and a tinker once it arrives - should be in the next month or two. Also I've signed up for the Beginners and Friends Python Programming Workshop (see http://www.meetup.com/nz-python-user-group/events/71029952/) so I'm happy to give a quick recap of that if anyone is interested. Another topic I could talk on is the XBMC home theater package - xbmc.org if anyone is interested. Regards, Rene --

For next Monday nights meeting I'd like to propose a demonstration of Linux Terminal Server Project (LTSP). (See www.ltsp.org ) I can provide: 1. A mock LTSP Server. I've installed both i386 and AMD64 Edubuntu 12.04 which includes LTSP. This server has 2 x 10/100/1000Mb/s ethernet cards, plus a wireless LAN card. The disk drive has plenty of free space if anyone wanted to install another distro's flavour of LTSP. 2. A 10/100/1000Mb/s ethernet switch as the local LAN for the clients to connect to the server. 3. Three HP T5000 series thin-clients with 100Mb/s ethernets. 4. A Dell SX270 thin-client with 1000Mb/s ethernet. 5. A printout of the LTSP Administrators Reference Guide. 6. I think I have enough keyboards, mice, monitors and power cords. What I don't have is about 5 x power distribution strips and 5 x ethernet cables. Plus it would be good if we could have the router available on the Monday night to hook into the Uni's network. I can provide this hardware, but I really don't know enough about LTSP to give the presentation. So is there anyone that is knowledgeable on LTSP that would like to do the presentation? For anyone wanting to do the presentation then I could drop off the hardware to you this week so you can play around with at home in advance of the meeting. Note: You need quite a bit of space. If we don't have a presenter, then I guess I could still bring everything along and we can all tinker around with the bits and pieces in more of a workshop fashion. Any starters for LTSP? Cheers, Ian.

Hi all, Rasberry PI sounds interesting as does the XMBC home theatre. Were you aware the Python met has been postponed for a month? Cheers, Chris
