As you are all probably aware, the WLUG Installfest is happening this weekend, Saturday 8 May, at Crawshaw Primary School. Directions and information can be obtained from the WLUG Wiki, at http://www.wlug.org.nz/InstallFest. If you are planning on coming, please please please register your interest. We'd like to have a rough idea of how many tables to put out, how many meters of power and network cabling we need, and how many sachets of Raro to buy. This also applies if you have talked to people and they are keen on coming - get them to register as well, or register a separate time for their entry. Thanks a lot, we hope to see a lot of you on Saturday. Daniel

Is there any point in turning up for an hour or two to assist with installation? I would like to help, and I consider myself fairly Linux-savvy, but I will NOT have anything to do with installing a Winmodem! -- regards, ------ Dr Denise Bates, PhD PO Box 23004, Hamilton, New Zealand Phone: 07-8558344

I think it would be worth it just to be there. :-) Also, "an hour or two" should be sufficient to set someone with fairly standard hardware up with a contemporary distro. -- Regards, Aristotle "If you can't laugh at yourself, you don't take life seriously enough."

I think anyone turning up with a winmodem will be out of luck, unless they know beforehand that there is a linmodem/linux driver for it. An installfest isn't supposed to be hard work for anyone :) John McPherson

Most of the common Winmodems are reasonably well supported under Linux and don't require a lot of work to get going. Same for nvidia cards. It's well worth the effort to get these going and I'm happy to help anyone who needs it. I've done plenty already.

BTW; I have TheOpenCD-1.4 - if anyone turns up with no free space, or for whatever other reason decides not to actually go ahead with installing Linux, we can still provide some Free software under Windows for them :) Get them used to Mozilla, OOo, etc and perhaps they'll be more comfortable trying Linux next time.
