hey I changed the location of my files to the 'public folder' and when I checked my file permissions and they are set to rwxr-xr-x. When I try and change those permission settings, they dont change. Can anyone tell me why? cheers Glenn Morrissey

How are you trying to change them? What application / command? Was there an error message? cheers stuart On Thu, Feb 5, 2009 at 9:14 AM, Glenn Stuart Morrissey <gmorrissey(a)kol.co.nz> wrote:

Hey Stuart I'm using FileZilla as my FTP Client. When I FTP, no problems with remote access, yet when I am in my public directory, and wish to change the file attributes (a dialog box comes up), nothing changes when I click ok. No error messages, I can see my files but why can i not get them to display on my web browser. And to add insult to injury, Kiwi Online doesn't support FTP, So cant even get any help from them. Bugger.

It's probably best to make sure the permissions are correct before you transfer them across to the webserver. The permission you've mentioned seem okay. The directory you want to load your files into is often called public_html. I'm not sure you're loading the files to the correct spot yet as the directory simply shows the cgi-bin directory. Maybe that helps. Cheers Chris 2009/2/5 Glenn Stuart Morrissey <gmorrissey(a)kol.co.nz>:

You've said that your webhosting company doesn't support FTP. What do they support for uploading files?
I think "don't support" means the helpdesk people, there is this article on their website though so of course they allow you to upload by ftp, you just can't expect any human assistance from them if this page isn't enough for you: http://www.kol.co.nz/settings/setup_ftp.php and you use what ever software you have installed. Anyway, your home page is showing now: http://gmorrissey.kol.co.nz/ Cheers, Roger

yeah, I read it, then read it again, then tried once more and it worked..Amazing thing, instructions. Glenn. On Sat, 2009-02-07 at 16:51 +1300, Roger Searle wrote:
