Hi all I am attempting to install a brother dpc- 115 multifunction printer to my newly ubuntu'd laptop. I have downloaded the debian package from brother: http://solutions.brother.com/linux/sol/printer/linux/lpr_drivers.html but when I attempted to install the package, I received the following error: glenn(a)glenn-asus:/brother$ sudo dpkg -i --force-all --force-architecture mfc210clpr-1.0.2-1.i386.deb Password: (Reading database ... 88020 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace mfc210clpr 1.0.2-1 (using mfc210clpr-1.0.2-1.i386.deb) ... Unpacking replacement mfc210clpr ... Setting up mfc210clpr (1.0.2-1) ... ln: creating symbolic link `/usr/lib/libbrcompij2.so.1.0' to `/usr/lib/libbrcompij2.so.1.0.2': File exists ln: creating symbolic link `/usr/lib/libbrcompij2.so.1' to `/usr/lib/libbrcompij2.so.1.0.2': File exists ln: creating symbolic link `/usr/lib/libbrcompij2.so' to `/usr/lib/libbrcompij2.so.1.0.2': File exists glenn(a)glenn-asus:/brother$ Do I need to install cups first? And am I downloading the correct driver? According to the brother website, the correct package was the one I downloaded, but I might be wrong about that. Any help appreciated. Glenn.

I seem to recall that two packages are required for a Brother DPC device, and one has to be installed before the other, or it won't work. I believe having CUPS installed would help. I have a Brother DPC-150C here. I could only get the printer function to work, and not the other functions. Sandy Glenn Stuart Morrissey wrote:

Glenn.

You need csh installed before you install the driver packages. The Brother howto mentions it, but it's pretty easy to overlook, and csh is not marked a dependency of the package that depends on it. I don't think that's the problem here though?

Hi Sandy Did you say that only the printer function works on the DCP machine? So the copy and scan functions don't work either? Glenn.

Well, when I installed the drivers that's all that worked. The drivers page looks different now; maybe the drivers support more. Sandy On Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 8:42 PM, Glenn Stuart Morrissey < gmorrissey(a)kol.co.nz> wrote:
