I have recently loaded Feisty 7.04 and am having a few basic problems which probably relate to my ineptitude. Firstly, it does not recognise my 22" LCD monitor as such and I cannot change the display to the appropriate settings. The second is getting it to recognise my Brother 215c printer. Can anyone tell me how to solve these issues? Thanks John

What make and model is your monitor, and what model (chipset) is your graffic card?

You will need to download the Linux (.deb) printer driver for your printer from brother.co.nz. Make sure you have installed the tsch package before though (the installer assumes it is already installed - since it is Debian based - which is not the case in Ubuntu) -- simon

For the monitor problem, switch to a text login (ctrl-alt-F1) log in and type "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" (without the quotes) Accept the defaults for all the options until you get to the monitor section. Tick the checkbox for all the resolutions you want to use (or just one for the monitor's native resolution) and for timing I usually pick the medium option and give it the best mode I know the monitor can do; in your case you want a 60Hz refresh rate for all modes and I'm not sure how to do that.
