Seems like the ownership of the x.org domain was not properly handed over during the reorg of the organization into a nonprofit. Followup article <http://phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=X.Org-Foundation-Missteps> documenting some of their other management screwups. Pity their vote to come under the umbrella of Software in the Public Interest (SPI) failed--that could have ensured that these sorts of necessary chores got done.
