I've been burnt one too many times with Redhat's release cycle.
Discovering you have to rewrite large applications because PHP now comes
with register_globals off.  Discovering that they've changed C++

register_globals off.... thank fucking god.  Tho this was an upstream (PHP) change I think not RH.

compiler versions to a version that only exists in Redhat, so you need
to recompile all your binary packages. Discovering that they've moved
the directory of something, so that your files are no longer being
referenced. Discovering that they've deprecated something all together
so it's gone. I've ridden the waves when Redhat moves first. I
remember moving to Glibc (oops! Nothing compiles anymore!), and PAM
(Oops, forgot to clean up a lock file), or .... I eventually got
irritated enough to move. I'm always keen to hear of alternatives, or
if they have changed their ways enough to make me want to switch back.

I say stay with what you're happiest or most familiar with.  I'm most familiar with RH (now Fedora) so I'm sticking with it and in my opinion it has only gotten better with time.  True that have been a number of times when they have done things that break away from old behaviour but in general it has always been for the betterment of the OS in general.  I can live with change.  It makes for a more interesting ride.
