Interesting, isn’t it, to compare a GUI environment on the one hand with an entire OS on the other. Or even not a complete GUI environment (e.g. KDE or GNOME), but just a window manager. On Linux, you have a whole choice of GUI environments, in a whole range of styles and degrees of complexity. On proprietary OSes, you get what the vendor provides, and you like it or lump it.
