[wlug] My wireless Internet works on my laptop but not my wired broadband.

I've been down to the library and my wireless works just fine, Also if the laptop is booted off the live cd Jaunty it works correctly with the wired broadband. I ran software updates and after that the wired internet wouldn't work. On googling for solutions I have found a number of people are having similar problems but I haven't found a solution that I can get to work .
