For anyone who's interested in /etc/hosts I changed the line 127.0.0.1 localhost

to 127.0.0.1 localhost calc

The default in ubuntu is: 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 calc I'm not sure why this is, but I'd be inclined to do it the same just in case.
